Banned Book: Slaughterhouse-5 by Kurt Vonnegut

Slaughterhouse-5 is a satirical novel about World War II experiences and the journey through time of a solider known as Billy Pilgrim, who is abducted by aliens and travels - or believes he does - through time. When I first read this book, it was in a teacher’s class in high school. Florida didn’t ban it, but my teacher did and I was sent to the office for reading something that he thought was “profane” and “malicious”. He was a conservative republican that supports Bush’s war. Go figure.

On this book Kurt wrote:

There are almost no characters in this story, and almost no dramatic confrontations, because most of the people in it are so sick, and so much the listless playthings of enormous forces. One of the main effects of war, after all, is that people are discouraged from being characters…”

Read this fucking book.
